It’s easy to say that AI is the new ultimate disrupter. Its rapid evolution, carefully guided or seemingly running on its own presents not just known unknowns, but unknown unknowns. Leaders who thrive in this kind of volatility are the ones who embrace resilience, adaptability, and ownership.

I’ve been diving into this through Jodi Brandstetter’s compelling series on AI’s unexpected impact on HR, and clearly we’re still in an exploratory phase.

While many say AI is different from past technological disruptions, one truth remains constant: The key to facing any disruption is to own it.

This connects deeply with my book's F.O.R.G.E.D. practice: Own the Unexpected.

✅ It’s not just about making tough decisions. It’s about standing by them.

✅ It’s about trusting your team to align with the mission and take ownership of success.

✅ And when things don’t go as planned, it’s about rejecting self-doubt and self-criticism and owning the lessons that move you forward.

CEO Kerry Siggins captures this perfectly in her book The Ownership Mindset, where she writes:

"Exceptional leaders understand that true ownership is fully owning everything that happens in your life. It means you understand you are responsible for your attitude, actions, reactions, teamwork, communication, and relationships. It also means you hold others accountable for their commitments and contributions. I refuse to play a victim, and I adopted the mindset that things don’t happen 𝘵𝘰 me, they happen 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 of me.

Leadership in the age of AI isn’t about tamping down disruptions. It’s about standing strong, embracing the unexpected, and transforming challenges into momentum.

How do you own the unexpected in your leadership journey? 🚀
